But I meant 100% of it.Ĭely: He said, "I won't take it back!" ( Laughs.) Then next thing you know, what happens happens. Azah ran up 22 flights of stairs and passed out. Javonny: ( Laughs.) Man, I was dead-ass serious! I was like, "Hey, look at me!" ( Laughs.) I wanted them to sense that fear that Cely and I were about to go in and take over this game. Were you trying to get in their heads at all? Speaking of that, Javonny, we saw you heckling Azah and Kyland off-camera while they were giving an interview before elimination.
But when we got picked, we were firecrackers ready to pop! ( Laughs.) But I should have played a little bit more and went political to bounce the target on someone else's shoulders. But if I didn't think we were going to get picked, I'm not going to kiss up to you. I had chances to talk to Angela and Tyson. He went ahead and talked to Angela and Tyson. So James put some fuel in Shannon's head, and James basically just put the team on his back. But James, unfortunately, wanted to be there. I thought it was going to be James and Shannon because Shannon didn't want to be there. I thought 100% we were not going to get picked. Javonny: Honestly, I didn't really have a strategy. And that's why I didn't want to beg because it would make me seem even more like a weak link. I meant to be here." So that's where my head was at. So I was definitely shocked when they said our names. And honestly, part of me was like, "If we go in, I want to show people that I'm small, but I'm scrappy." I saw it as a chance to prove myself and prove to people that I was meant to be there. So, Cely, when you say on the way out that if you came back to play, you would be more strategic, was that what you were referring to?Ĭely: To be honest, with me being built the way I am, 5'2" and 100 pounds, people already see me as this little weak link. If it came down to elimination, then it was gonna come down to it. But we just didn't want to be the ones to have to beg to save our lives. Obviously, it didn't work out in our favor.
But we saw it as an opportunity that if we went in, we could just prove ourselves and come back and go crazy. And we knew that we were on The Challenge and, at the end of the day, everyone's gonna have to do it at some point. So we need to be ready." But with both of us, one thing we're not going to do is beg. And I had pulled Javonny aside for a second, and I was like, "Listen, it could be us. Why were you so surprised when you saw Tyson and Angela choose you to go into elimination? Did you see any of the politicking James and Shannon were doing before?Ĭely: We knew that the conversations were happening. So let's start with where that war ended. Javonny: ( Laughs.) But I was ready to go. My slim, good-looking self from Love Island wasn't there.Ĭely: That booty was bootying, though! ( Laughs.) I put on weight and gained 20 pounds for this show to prepare myself for anything. Javonny Vega: Man, I was running about 25 miles a week. And even though we got eliminated, I know that I still can. And I wanted to go on the show to prove to myself that I could do it. Why did you decide to do The Challenge: USA, and how much prep did you put into it before the show?Ĭely Vazquez: Justine and I were out here training! We did boxing we did all of the above. But the pair's last-minute politicking skills paid off, sending them in. Even so, Cely and Javonny walked into the elimination arena confident James Wallington and Shannon St. The winning couple of Tyson Apostol and Angela Rummans made it clear they were targeting everyone outside of Survivor and Big Brother. When the two Love Island alumni partnered up for the first challenge, they had a lot of laughs, despite not ultimately winning. The Challenge: USA is here!
